SATURDAY 13 DECEMBER AT 6pm: Christmas Carol, carols and songs with singers Sabine Revault d'Allones, Diana Higbee, Adélaïde Rouyer and Chloé Ducray on harp.
Did you know that the origins of carols date back to the Middle Ages? Celebrated at the time of the winter solstice, this pagan music, danced and sung, symbolised the return of light. It was only in the 19th century that they really took root in the Christmas season, particularly in England, where they became a huge craze, thanks in part to Charles Dickens' famous novel A Christmas Carol, which is said to have popularised the expression "Merry Christmas". Accompanied by the harp, three singers pay tribute to this enchanting end-of-year enchantment. More than just a concert, it's a journey through the magic of this festival, with a musical anthology mixing old popular Christmas, classical works and traditional songs from across the Atlantic. Come and celebrate Christmas in music!
/// Église Notre-Dame, duration 1h10, €8, subject to availability.
Thanks to the Fondation Condé for making the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul chapel available and to the Sainte-Famille parish for the Notre-Dame church.
